Muskoka
The inspiration for this model of Kachelofen came from a client who was a former student of Jessica’s at the Haliburton School of Art and Design. Jessica was hired to design and build an oven for a family cottage on Lake of Bays within the District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario. Muskoka is widely known for its beautiful landscapes of forests, rocks, lakes and wetlands. It is an important Canadian destination for cottaging, recreation and tourism.
The client’s cottage is nestled in amongst a stand of oak trees. It was suggested that acorns might be an interesting motif to explore. Jessica designed a simple and elegant acorn pattern around the crown. The oven is glazed in a vibrant cobalt blue. It sits in front of a large slate wall in an open area of the cottage.
This model can be customized in a number of ways. The original oven has a warming shelf, a customized Kachel with the date, and a matching cobalt blue hearth. We have also created Muskoka Kachelofen with cookstoves, extra width/depth/height for more heat, custom colours, and custom engravings among other things
The basic configuration of this oven is elegant, efficient and compact. It is made up of just over 90 handmade bricks. It measures 63 cm wide (24”) by 53 cm deep (20”) by 208 cm high (80”).
