Cherokee Rose Kachelofen

It is not uncommon for a client to order a set of Kacheln, but not be in a position to install a fully functional Kachelofen. This was the case for Tasiana and Matt. They wanted to buy a set of Kacheln now but only set it up as a showpiece. When they eventually buy their final home, they are planning to install it as a working Kachelofen at that time.

They wanted a few customized touches. Garlands of Cherokee Rose adorn the bottom row of Kacheln. The top row also has a cat’s face on alternating Kacheln. Three roses and the date are on a key Kachel as well.

When a Kachelofen is assembled as a non-functioning showpiece, we use ball clay and sand to set the Kacheln. This mixture can take a bit longer to set, but it makes dismantling the oven much easier. For a permanent installation we use lime and sand.
