The Original Muskoka Kachelofen

This is the original Muskoka Kachelofen which now lives in an older cottage on Lake of Bays. 

These photographs were taken before the wooden bench seats were installed on either side of the Kachelofen. The grey slate wall is offset by the vibrant cobalt blue. A warming shelf and accent tile finish off this elegant design.

A quick note about chimney exhaust placement. The layout of this cottage meant that the chimney had to exhaust from the top of the oven. This is suboptimal. Kachelofen are slightly more efficient if the chimney can exhaust horizontally from the top row of Kacheln. A lateral exhaust helps slow down the rate of heat escaping through the chimney.
