Handmade Tile & Kacheln

Available Styles

SHKO uses a variety of techniques to make our tiles. Wether they are hand-pressed or rolled and cut to size, you can rest assured that we’ve gone to great lengths to make sure that they will be of the utmost quality.

It is important to note that many of our accent tiles began life as Kacheln. If you see a pattern or shape in one of our Kachelöfen that would be perfect for your project, then we would be happy to make it as a tile!

About Individual Tiles, Tile Sets and Kachel Trim Sets

In many cases our individual accent tiles are thicker than normal tiles. This is because they often began life as Kacheln, which require extra thickness to aid in heat retention. This allows us to carve out an area on the back of the tile for hanging. This is an easy way to display a tile on a wall without using grout or some type of adhesive. However it is safer to permanently mount a tile using the correct adhesive, or securely frame a tile.

Ceramic tiling is a broad category. In some cases this may mean a few dozen large tiles for a backsplash. In other cases it may mean thousands of smaller shattered tile fragments to create a mosaic. We can incorporate antique tiles into our design. We can include sculptural elements as well. We would be happy to speak to you or your tile setter to come up with a perfect solution.

A Kachel trim set is a group of Kacheln that can be purchased from us for projects other than building a functional Kachelöfen. For example, a mason may want to add a row of ceramic Kacheln to break up the visual mass of a stone masonry heater. We can provide a quote for a trim set based on the needs of your project.
