Commission Kachelöfen

Let’s make the Kachelofen of your dreams!

The designing stage of a Kachelofen is a crucial step that unfolds at its own pace. Sometimes a design springs to mind quickly and organically. At other times a design needs to simmer on the back burner for awhile before the perfect solution is found. This is probably the most important step of the whole process. The process typically begins with a conversation with our designer and project coordinator Jessica. In speaking with you Jessica gets a sense of the scope of your project, and brings her ideas to the table.

A lot of preparation goes into building a Kachelofen. Most of our ovens have a degree of customization that is worked out in the design process. Sometimes there are restrictions on where an oven can be constructed. Chimney, air intake and foundation requirements can all affect the final building site. The location of mechanicals also needs to be considered. If a Kachelofen is part of a larger renovation project, it is important to consult with us as early as possible to make sure that as many options are open as possible.

please note:

  • a cold air intake and a chimney must be in place before a Kachelofen can be built
  • a masonry foundation may be needed to support the mass of the Kachelofen
  • a Kachelofen may only be built by an experienced oven builder

Why not grab a pencil and a piece of paper and put some ideas down in writing. Then shoot us an email, or give us a call!
